A rare and authentic soul. As a fellow chocolate-maker, I first officially met Javed at a Habitat for Humanity event which was my first, or one of my first, sampling events as a chocolate-maker. Several things happened that day that illustrated exactly what kind of person Javed was. I had no idea how to lay out samples, or how the industry work, and Javed was kind and took me under his wing, reaching out, talking to me about farming, the industry, and giving advice. A little later, Dad and I found a baby owl, and Javed helped us to put him back on the samaan tree in hopes he would find his family. Throughout the years, at any cocoa-related event we met at, I would always be drawn to the kindness in his smile, his gentle demeanour, and genuine aura. He was wonderful and I knew deeply that his kindness did not mean weakness of character. He inspired me; living true to his inner self, and having an inner and outer strength to live the life close to nature that he loved. My heart is truly heavy at his passing, but I choose this post to celebrate the life of a wonderful human being who it was an HONOUR and pleasure to have known. You know the life some of us want to live, being more sustainable, in touch with nature? Javed lived it. God alone knows why he had to go so soon, but his legacy will live.
