I did not know Javed well, but he left a lasting impression. I will always remember him as a kind, thoughtful, and incredibly skilled naturalist and person. The first time I met him, he brought a beautiful Tigre, pictured here, to the house to show us. I remember admiring his skill as a naturalist and his calm nature. So many people are afraid of snakes, but Javed wasn't and his fearlessness came from a place of knowledge, understanding, and joy. He wanted to share that joy with us and introduce us to the beautiful snake he had found. I hadn't learned how to handle snakes yet, and his skills seemed a bit like magic. Now, after learning how to care for snakes myself, I still think he had a special touch for it. This is a fond memory of my time in Brasso that I carry with me. My heart breaks to know that Javed was taken from his community and family. I may not have known him well, but I knew him well enough to know that the world is a poorer place without him in it.
